Rough draft of a design document from an internship / consultant role during Summer 2024
As shown in the document, I used Robert Gagnè's Nine Events of Learning as a learning framework
My role: Designer, writer, editor
I worked closely with a health clinic manager to design this training content based on the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services' (CMS) annual training requirement for Emergency Preparedness
The final product is currently being used to achieve the clinic's annual requirement for Emergency Preparedness training

The problem: The health clinic is a unique entity not affiliated with a hospital or health care network. As such, they must provide employee training to meet federal regulations regarding emergency preparedness.
This document will serve as the guiding outline to build training content to meet the clinic's requirement for CMS.
I am currently (Summer 2024) in an internship with this U.S. based health clinic that delivers kidney care.
The internship is a 12-week assignment where I initially have acted as a consultant and analyst to assist the health clinic.
After evaluating the needs and requirements, I have been working closely with the primary clinic manager to design and develop training that best suits the clinic's needs.
The training package will be implemented into the clinic's payroll / human resource platform for tracking on an annual basis.
My role in this project was as a consultant who took the project from its beginnings to implementation.
I worked with the clinic manager and researched federal regulations to identify the learning content. We met weekly to provided updates and check-ins regarding progress towards the final goal.
I wrote all of the copy, designed the lesson, and am currently developing the final content.
This artifact is a rough draft that is still being refined.
The clinic manager was pleased with this outline and layout of the content. She particularly liked a short walkthrough of the Gagnè framework that I presented.
The document will be serving as the framework for building a final training module with some revisions and refinement.
This document is the result of several meetings I had with the clinic manager regarding their need for compliance training. The document communicates the learning objectives, the framework that will be used for training, and the initial plans on content and learning design.
Many hours of research on federal policies came before writing this document. Documenting those policies and talking through those policies with the manager were crucial in creating an instructional plan with the clinic manager. The plan shown here meets rules set out by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.
This document is an example of me applying learning theory into design practice. I clearly designed a learning solution to meet the customer's needs. Appropriate strategies are used throughout the learning sequence to meet requirements and increase learning transfer.
This document was designed and edited using Google docs. This platform allowed for dynamic revision and commenting from SMEs and the clinic manager.
I managed the initial presentation of the design document in its rough draft form. I communicated to stakeholders regarding revisions and worked with them to meet their expectations throughout writing this document.
Throughout the internship, I worked closely with the clinic manager and built a professional relationship. Gaining confidence from the manager through frequent checkins and updates was crucial to my success when suggesting training strategies.
